Gutsy win by Big Hearted in 2YO race

BIG HEARTED performed just as his name suggest in the Inglis Ready2Race Sale Stakes for two-year-olds over 1000m on the polytrack at Kranji here today to make it wins in two starts.

For auction hose William Inglis & Sons, there could not be a more appropriate winner as he was sold for A$120,000 at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale. 

Drawn the extreme wide barrier (12), jockey Vlad Duric elected to ease him back and the Hallowed Crown gelding had just two horses behind him at the home turn and racing very wide.

When the field straightened, BIG HEARTED opened up in fine style and swept to the front 200m out.

ROCKET STAR, who had to ease and steadied passing the 400m, came charging home but BIG HEARTED held on to win by a short head.

The even-money favourite then had to survive an objection lodged by Callan Murray on ROCKET STAR for alleged interference.

"He’s got a lot of ability and has improved off his first run, and hopefully, he improves off that second run, too," said trainer Michael Clements.

"It was a massive effort considering he was hanging out the whole way through. I rode him forward and the long run helped him," said Duric.
