Blizzard storms to Fortune Bowl victory

With his proven stakes record in Hong Kong, it has not taken BLIZZARD long to get off the mark in Singapore. And his first win at Kranji was the S$200,000 Fortune Bowl, no less, at Kranji here today at the traditional meeting to mark the lunar new year.

After finishing sixth in his Singapore debut and then fourth the last time out, the seven-year-old settled fifth most of the way before fighting it out with COUNTOFMONTECRISTO to win by a nose in the 1400m Group 3 event.

"He needed his first two runs here. He didn’t handle the Polytrack either (in his first two starts)," said trainer Lee Freedman. "But I knew the 1400m would suit him better. His trackwork form was good. I’m so thrilled it’s worked out well and I think he’ll be a force to reckon with over the mile."

BLIZZARD won seven races from 1000m-1400m from 31 starts in Hong Kong including the Hong Kong Group 3 Chinese Club Challenge Cup. But his most notable effort was a third in the Group 1 Hong Kong Sprint in his final season in Hong Kong before coming to Singapore.

For jockey Daniel Moor, it was a memorable afternoon. Not only did he win his first feature race in Singapore, he also recorded his first treble today, having won on IRVING LIPSCHITZ in a dead-heat and QUARTER BACK earlier in the afternoon.
