Pachelbel's Canon fires to first MRA win

A Group 1 winner in his native Argentina, PACHELBEL'S CANON finally fired away his first win in the local circuit when took out the Class 4 - 1200m handicap here today.

The son of Jump Start won six races in 14 starts in Argentina including the Group 1 Grand Premio Estrellas Mile at Palermo and the the Group 3 Clasico Hipodromo de La Plata.

Brought over to Singapore, PACHELBEL'S CANON was placed just once in two season at Kranji.

Transferred to Malaysia, the now eight-year-old has spent the last two years finding his mark but came second five times in 22 outings.

Khairil Zulkiflee had ridden the gelding six times without success but came closest last time out when second to SUPER GENIUS.

The pair made no mistake this time. Khairil had PACHELBEL'S CANON well back early and hugging the rails. But the rider gradually eased him out for a run behind runners at the home turn.

Once in the clear, PACHELBEL'S CANON went after the leader HANGMAN at the 200m and won drawing away by 1 3/4 lengths.
