Butch Cassidy gallops to maiden win

Following a change of trainer and nearly six months on the sidelines, BUTCH CASSIDY finally found the end of a long lane when he battled to victory in a Class 5 - 1400m handicap here today.

The Darci Brahma gelding began his career in Singapore in 2015, where he was unplaced in 2 runs.

Moving to Malaysia the following year, BUTCH CASSIDY failed to fire in 32 starts with two different trainers.

Ridden by Wong Kam Chong, the six-year-old, now trained by Peter Lee, was kept just behind the pace, then moved up to challenge SUPER RED who had taken the lead at the 300m.

BUTCH CASSIDY, who found one to beat four times previously, overtook him at the 100m. In the closing stages, however, BLACK DIAMOND came charging but just failed to BUTCH CASSIDY by a neck.
