God Helps Me in surprise win

The last home in his previous two starts this season, GOD HELPS ME turned his form around with a gutsy victory in the Class 3 - 1400m handicap at Sungei Besi here today.

Whereas he tailed the field in his last two runs, the Congrats gelding was well up with the pace throughout and was pulling double when moving up to second spot at the home turn. But the pacemaker SACRED SURFER kicked clear at the 300m while GOD HELPS ME was struggling to get going.

GOD HELPS ME, ridden by Laercio De Souza, eventually opened up and raced past SACRED SURFER in the last few strides to win by half a length. Because of his poor recent form, he started at a very generous RM88.

It was the fifth win in 21 starts for the gelding and the fourth with De Souza astride.

For the second consecutive days, heavy rain curtailed the programme causing the last two races to be called off yesterday and again today.
