Northern Knight battles to first win Malaysia

Placed once in six previous starts after relocating to Malaysia, NORTHERN KNIGHT was off the mark in the new chapter of his career when he carved out a narrow win in a Class 4 - 1200m handicap here today.

CERDAN, after disputing the early lead, took command passing the 800m and had a clear lead racing into the home straight. Even at the 200m, he was still had three lengths to spare over the rest of the field.

The favourite SMART EAGLE's challenge faded passing the 200m. NORTHERN KNIGHT, who was racing in midfield till the home turn, slowly but surely close the gap.

In the final 150m, the eight-year-old went after the leader and nailed him close home to win by a head.

NORTHERN KNIGHT had a win and two placings in five runs in New Zealand but managed just one win and 10 placings in 30 starts in Singapore. His only win at Kranji was achieved slightly over three years ago.

AMISTAD brought up a double for the meeting, winning the opening race last Saturday and again the first race on the card today.
