Lingarajah lands first win on I Am Midas

In just his fourth ride since gaining his licence, apprentice R Lingarajan was off the mark after guiding I AM MIDAS to victory in a Class 5 - 1400m handicap here today.

I AM MIDAS was amongst a line of four horses vying for the lead early and at the halfway stage was racing in between ELITE GUSTAVO and EMPIRE BAY at the front.

Making the turn into the home straight, I AM MIDAS dropped out of the lead and was inclined hang out. ELITE GUSTAVO and EMPIRE BAY were fighting out out at the 200m when I AM MIDAS raised another effort wide out. At the same time, THE MILLIONAIRE was making a challenge in between runners.

I AM MIDAS hit the front 100m out with THE MILLIONAIRE in hot pursuit. But the former held on to win by half a length. It's the second win in 12 starts for the Haradasun gelding, his first coming in the corresponding meeting last year.
