Marsh bids farewell with Supernova win

Retiring trainer Bruce Marsh bowed out with a winner at his final meeting at Kranji here today, ending his 14-year stay in Singapore.

It was the evergreen SUPERNOVA who provided him with a fitting farewell. The 11-year-old is surely one of his favourites at Kranji, with 12 wins in 84 starts since winning his debut in December 2012.

The gelding's most memorable effort, though, was a second to HOLY EMPIRE in the Group 3 Saas Fee Stakes the following year.

Ridden by apprentice Zyrul Nor Azman, SUPERNOVA tracked the front-running GREEN STAR all the way in the Class 4 - 1600m handicap, battled hard to get to the leader and managed to do so in the last couple of strides. SUPERNOVA won by a short head.

"I’m so pleased SUPERNOVA won my last race here," said Marsh. This horse is my favourite at the stable. He’s got good clean legs, he’s a real ‘class’ horse. To do this when is such an old horse is just amazing."

Marsh's assistant, Jason Ong, will be taking over his stable tomorrow.
