Pinheiro takes scene by storm with treble

After being placed thrice in his debut yesterday, Brazilian jockey Bernardo Pinheiro quickly showed what he us capable of when he booted home three winners at Sungei Besi here today, including the feature race, the Mydora Cup.

Eight-year-old ORIENTAL SPIRIT gave Pinheiro the perfect start to the afternoon when he romped to a 4 1/2-length win in a Class 5 - 1100m handicap.

The four-time winner has not tasted success since the corresponding weekend in 2017 has been on board in four of five starts this season before his comeback win.

Pinheiro then landed back-to-backs wins on MR HANKS and SACRED TONIC.

MR HANKS, a four-time winner in Singapore, was racing for the third time for Shane Ellis. After hitting the front, the New Zealand gelding held off the favourite ATEEJ to win by a neck in the Mydora Cup.

Unplaced in four runs in Singapore, SACRED TONIC led all the way in his Malaysia debut, winning easily by two lengths in a Open Maiden event.

Pinheiro won his first race as an apprentice in 2013 and became a senior rider two years later. He has also ridden by Dubai and Bahrain and won a number of feature races there.

Pinheiro has been granted a licence to ride by the Selangor Turf Club until the end of the year.
