Sakito off the mark on Semantan Prince

It has not taken Japanese jockey Yamamoto Sakito long to get off the mark in Malaysia.

The 23-year-old made his debut at Sungei Besi here last Sunday but was unplaced in two races. In his second ride today, Sakito partnered newcomer SEMANTAN PRINCE to win the Open Maiden event over 1300m.

The Nadeem gelding was placed third in his only run at three in New Zealand and did enough in his workouts for punters to send him off odds-on favourite today.

SEMANTAN PRINCE did not disappoint. After settling in second spot amongst a group of three horses behind the leader, he hit the front at the top of the straight when the pacemaker veered wide.

SEMANTAN PRINCE was chased by a wall of horses in the run home but held on to his advantage to win by 2 1/4 lengths.

Sakito has ridden 121 winners since granted an apprentice jockey licence by the National Association of Racing in 2015.
