Golden Tycoon earns first silverware

GOLDEN TYCOON came on the scene as a four-year-old but is proving to be one of the rising stars in Malaysian racing.

The New Zealand gelding cost NZ$70,000 as a yearling and arrived in Penang in June last year. His connections gave him plenty of time to settle and GOLDEN TYCOON only made his bow last December, finishing unplaced.

But he soon showed his potential with a second placing, followed by a win in Class 4 early this season.

Two more wins followed in the next six runs before he earned his first silverware in the RM45,000 Odds Park Cup at Sungei Besi here today.

Ridden by Ruzaini Supien, the five-year-old led briefly early, then allowed TOM KING to take the lead. LISBOA STAR took over at the 400m when the leader weakened rapidly.

GOLDEN TYCOON and HELLO BOSS gave chase in the and the former swept to the front inside the 100m to win by 1 3/4 lengths.
