Altair on the upgrade with fourth win

He mighty have won just once in 11 starts in Australia, but ALTAIR is taking the Singapore scene by storm.

An easy win Class 3 on New Year's Day was followed by another impressive victory in the Class 2 - 1200m sprint at Kranji here today, taking his record thus far in Singapore to four wins and a second in as many outings.

Ridden by Benny Woodworth, the Zoustar gelding jumped best from the widest barrier and was a clear leader early. His rider eased back to second spot when AUTUMN RUSH decided to go forward and took the lead.

But ALTAIR easily raced past the leader at the top of the straight to win by 1 1/4 lengths with last year's 3YO star TOP KNIGHT finishing strongly to take second place. It was his first test on the turf after four runs on the polytrack

Trainer Mark Walker will now aim the gelding at the 4YO series.

"I was not worried about the turf today as he’s won over 1550m on turf at Canterbury," said Walker. "But there is also a little bit of speed about him. He can really ping out of the gates, and we’ll take him through the 4YO series."

ALTAIR was bought for A$510,000 as a yearling and was placed once in two runs at two. Turning three, he was placed four times before breaking through at Canterbury in 11 starts total as a three-year-old.
