COUNTOFMONTECRISTO is back at his best and a trip to Dubai beckons for the New Zealand gelding after his come-from-behind win in the Group 2 Chairman's Trophy over 1600m at Kranji here today.

The former top-rated sprinter has been taking on middle distances since his last victory in the Group 2 Merlion Trophy (1200m) last August, finishing third in the Singapore Gold Cup (2000m) in November and the Fortune Bowl (1400m) last month.

So it came as no surprise that punters installed him odds-on favourite against eight rivals in today's weight-for-age contest.

Ridden for the first time by French jockey by Louis-Philippe Beuzelin, COUNTOFMONTECRISTO won easily by one length after staying off the early pace.

"I had done my homework and saw all his races. My main goal was to get him as relaxed as possible in the running," said Beuzelin who came to Singapore last August. "I’ve won a Group 1 in India, the Cesarewitch Handicap in UK (2010 aboard AIM TO PROSPER), but this is my first Group win in Singapore. It’s an unbelievable feeling."

COUNTOFMONTECRISTO has now picked up nine wins, five in group races, in 28 starts and his connections are now hoping for an invite from Dubai.
