13th win in comeback

Veteran galloper EMPIRE BAY showed
that he can still raise a gallop when he scored a comeback win in a Class 5
- 1400m handicap event today, before the afternoon's proceedings were cut
short because of the adverse track conditions.
The Iffraaj gelding began his career eight years ago, winning four races
(including one in Class 3) in three seasons in Singapore.
In the last five years, although never regaining his best Singapore form,
EMPIRE BAY has added nine more wins in Malaysia. His last success came just
over 12 months ago. Now 11-year-old, he showed that there is still fire in
him.
Lim Aun Kean, who first partnered the gelding to win a race three years ago
while still an apprentice, was back in the saddle after a lapse of 12 months
and the pair struck again.
Lim settled EMPIRE BAY behind the pacemaker ROCK ME EASY till the 400m
before heading to the front to win by 1 1/4 lengths from FLEDGELING who
flashed home too late. It was his 13th win in 107 starts.
