Inferno blazes rivals in Singapore Classic

Singapore's rising star INFERNO passed his first test beyond 1200m when he came off the pace to capture the Group 2 Singapore Classic over 1400m at Kranji here today.

The Singapore Three-Year-Old series this year was delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic, with the Sprint (1200m) cancelled and the Classic held today. The final leg, the Singapore Guineas will be staged next month. The three-year-olds have just turned four.

INFERNO won five of his previous six starts over 1200m, including the Group 2 Aushorse Golden Horseshoe and Group 2 Saas Fee Stakes last year.

Vlad Duric, who took over from Michael Rodd this year, settled INFERNO off the pace in midfield and switched out making the turn into the straight. At the top of the straight he was ready to strike and by the 200m he was already in front and clearing away. INFERNO won by 1 1/4 lengths.

"That was such an exciting win. He travelled beautifully throughout and that was a 10-out-of-10 ride from Vlad Duric," said trainer Cliff Brown. ""I just told him not to move before the bend, and things worked out perfectly.

"The Guineas (Sep 26) is the plan for him next. I won’t change a thing in his training, this horse is getting better and better."
