Malaysian apprentice Krisna Thangamani landed his first
group win in Singapore when he piloted NOWYOUSEE to a runaway win in the
S$175,000 New Year Cup over 1200m at Kranji here today.
Krisna's only trophy success in
Malaysia was the Kenilworth Trophy when he was indentured to Richard Lines.
NOWYOUSEE won his first two starts in 2017 and added four
more wins the next season. But the son of O'Reilly went through 2019 without
a win in 10 starts was but placed third three times, the most recent behind
BOLD THRUSTER in a Class 1 race last month.
BOLD THRUSTER started favourite in today's Singapore
Group 3 event but a bad start put paid to his chances, although he did
extremely well to flash home third.
Meanwhile, NOWYOUSEE, who started at $139, led from start
to finish to win by three lengths.
"He’s a horse who always ran well and finished
thereabouts. Today, he jumped well and carried on into the straight and he
then gave me a good response in the straight," said Krisna.
For trainer Tan Kah Soon, it was
his third group win after the Group 2 EW Barker Trophy (1400m) and Group 3
Fortune Bowl (1400m) both with CLARTON SUPER in 2017.
