Passport To Rome finds success again

After finishing down the field and returned lame last June, PAPARAZZI was given a spell and subsequently renamed PASSPORT TO ROME.

By this time, the son of Snitzel had already won three times in 17 starts at Kranji.

Under his new name, the Australian gelding showed a return to form with a first-up third from his five-month let-up and was unplaced in his next start later in November.

But a change of riding tactics by first-time partner Shafrizal Saleh saw PASSPORT TO ROME scored an runaway win after grabbing the lead in the back strraight.

 

"He’s mostly a backmarker, but he won a Novice race by leading once and he also led in the Stewards’ Cup, and was only run down late," said trainer Shane Baertschiger. "There was not much speed in the race and I rang the Stewards and told them he would endeavour to go forward. The boy rode him well, too."

PASSPORT TO ROME was a A$2.2mil purchase by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum at the Eastern Yearling Sale but did not race as a juvenile.

He was placed in both his two runs at Newcastle at three before flying out to Singapore.
