Magical debut for Exceed And Excel gelding

MAGIC SEVENTY TWO (late Korma), who found success only in his third season in Australia, quickly made his mark in Malaysia when he scored in his debut in a Class 4 - 1300m handicap at Sungei Besi here today.

The Exceed And Excel gelding was kept well off the pace early in midfield with the favourite PLACE YOUR BET setting a brisk and making a breakaway making the turn into the straight.

PLACE YOUR BET was still well clear of the field at the 200m but soon came under pressure. MAGIC SEVENTY TWO was along a line of three horses cornering him 100m out. Two others charged home close to home to make it a line of five at the post.

In a photo finish, MAGIC SEVENTY TWO prevailed by a nose.

MAGIC SEVENTY TWO was placed once in four runs at two and three of nine starts at three. It was only at four that he won two of his seven starts over 2200m and 2108m before coming to Malaysia.
