Siam Blue Vanda bags Stewards' Cup

SIAM BLUE VANDA stepped up on his first placing in a group race last time out to capture the Group 2 Stewards' Cup at Kranji here tonight.

The New Zealand gelding contested all three legs of the Three-Year-Old series last year with the best results being a fourth to TOP KNIGHT in the Classic over 1400m.

SIAM BLUE VANDA, however, began to blossom later in the year with double in Class 4 and 3, then completed a hat-trick winning in Class 2 to start the new season.

The son of Echoes Of Heaven ran third in the Group 3 Silver Bowl (1400m), the first leg of the Four-Year-Old Challenge, last start and appreciated the longer trip tonight to snatch a narrow win.

With A'Isisuhairi Kassim replacing the indisposed Daniel Moor, SIAM BLUE VANDA is his usual customary style, settled well off the pace before storming home on the outside to beat TOP KNIGHT by a short head.

It's the second win in the Cup for the former champion apprentice.

"I feel sorry for Daniel Moor, but I’m happy this has been my night," said A’IsisuhairiI. "I remember I also replaced Manoel Nunes on TIYTANIUM and we won the same Stewards’ Cup."

SIAM BLUE VANDA has now seven wins in 15 starts.
