Magic Wand bounces back with upset win

MAGIC WAND worked wonders again after a long lapse to score an upset win in the Class 3, Div 1 - 1200m on the polytrack at Kranji here today, in just his third outing of the year and his second from a nine-month break.

Trainer Tan Kah Soon took over the Star Witness gelding after his last win 24 months ago and this is the six-year-old's first win for him in 11 starts.

MAGIC WAND won four races in 2017 and 2018 including two Kranji Stakes C events.

Ridden by Krisna Thangamani for the first time today, MAGIC WAND settled in second before hitting the front 300m out but just held on to win by a head from a line of three horses flashing home on his outside. MAGIC WANG paid $111.

"He’s really come on from his last run. You can’t do too much with him between runs," said Tan. "He’s such a brave horse. He’s got so much guts even though he was running on empty in the end."

The day's races began with a huge upset when SPLIT SECOND showed up for the first time in four starts to win over 1600m to pay $327.
