All-the-way win for Celavi in Merlion Trophy

CELAVI capped a superb season when she made all the running to win the Group 3 Merlion Trophy over 1200m at Kranji here today, the final day of the Singapore 2021 racing season.

Earlier in the year, the daughter of Fighting Sun beat one home in the Group 1 Lion City Cup, her worst performance ever.

But the Australian mare quickly bounced back to win her next three starts. Following a two-month break, he finished fourth last month.

"It’s great to win the race we have earmarked for CELAVI for some time. It’s great when a plan comes together like that," said trainer Michael Clements.

"We had programmed that race for her for a while. At her last start, she didn’t have the pace but the race brought her on."

Purchased for A$100,000 at the Horses In Training sale, CELAVI has now picked up seven wins in 12 starts.
