Celavi comes alive again after Cup failure

CELAVI picked up from her disappointing run in the Lion City Cup last month to capture the Class 3 - 1200m sprint on the polytrack at Kranji here today.

The daughter of Fighting Sun, bought for A$100,000 as a 2YO, won three of five starts in late 2019 and early last year before racing took a break due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

CELAVI took nearly a year to make her comeback following the resumption of racing and almost pulled it off when she finished second to DARC BOUNTY last February.

Having scored a double in Class before her let-up, it was her first test in Class 3. The Group 1 Lion City Cup might have been a step too far for her at this stage but CELAVI quickly displayed the stuff she's made of with a comfortable win today.

Ridden by Mohd Zaki who replaced the indisposed Vlad Duric, CELAVI overcame a wide draw to take command on settling down and was not headed thereafter.

CELAVI wound up a superb afternoon for trainer Michael Clements who had saddled three other winners early in the afternoon.
