Clyde Leck lands maiden win

It has not taken rookie apprentice Clyde Leck long to land his first win.

Placed thrice early this month when he first started riding, Leck marked his 10th appearance by guiding WHITE PEACH to an all-the-way win in the Open Maiden event over 1200m at Sungei Besi here today.

Two weeks ago, Leck had partnered WHITE PEACH in the gelding's racing debut, coming from a long way back to finish third over 1100m after being badly away at the jump.

This time, the son of Ruwi jumped well and quickly took command, romping home by 5 1/4 lengths.

On his Facebook page, Leck posted: "Thankful for everyone who have supported me. Couldn’t have done it without the guidance of many and I really appreciate the people who have helped to pave this road. More winners will come along with gratitude of those who were with me. Jockeys say a good horse will make a good jockey but in this case it was a good dad who made a grateful apprentice jockey."

Dad is veteran trainer Charles Leck who has trained successfully in Singapore and Macau and now based in Kuala Lumpur.
