Diamond Rush regains sparkle with upset

After a disappointing campaign in Singapore, DIAMOND RUSH regained his sparkle with a gutsy win in a Class 4 - 1200m handicap here today.

The Patronize gelding won once and was placed twice in eight starts in Western Australia before heading to Singapore where he managed just one placing in eight outings at Kranji.

Shipped to Malaysia to join Kevin Coetzee's stable in Ipoh, DIAMOND RUSH was unplaced twice before finding one beat in his last start over the Ipoh 1100m straight course.

The six-year-old was trapped wide early and apprentice Saari Hafis made a bold move to take him up to the leaders approaching the 800m and took over the running soon after.

From then on, DIAMOND RUSH held on to his advantage to win by 1 1/2 lengths in a RM102 upset.

There was an even bigger surprise in the last race when STARDICE scored his first win in six starts in Malaysia to pay RM218.

The O'Reilly gelding managed just one win in 23 outings in Singapore before making the move up north.
