Entertainer thrills with sixth win of season

ENTERTAINER passed his first test in Class 2 — his stiffest yet — with flying colours over 1100m on the polytrack at Kranji here today.

It was his sixth win of the season and no other horse has picked up the same number or more wins than the son of Zoustar gelding.

Ridden by leading rider Hakim Kamaruddin, the five-year-old showed tremendous fighting quality when he had to staff off the challenge of MURAAHIB before winning by a short head.

ENTERTAINER has proved to be late bloomer. Costing A$150,000 as a yearling, he was placed just once in four starts in Australia.

The Australian gelding started his Singapore campaign with two placings last year. This was followed by two unplaced effort before he exploded into the scene with a hat-trick of wins at the start of the 2021 season.

The five-year-old has since picked four more wins in his last five starts. He faded badly last time out after taking the lead on the home bend over 1200m.

Up a class today, ENTERTAINER took advantage of a postage stamp weight of 48.5kg today.

"Hakim gave him a gun ride. At the 100m, I thought he was beat, but he digs deep," said trainer Mark Walker. "When he saw the other horse, he found another gear."

"I think the 1100m is just his favourite distance. The 1200m was a bit too far last time."
