Ironchamp too tough despite promotion

After attempting to lead all the way over 1400m in his last two starts but was caught in the closing stages, IRONCHAMP made it all the way in the Class 3 - 1400m handicap at Kranji here today.

The Glass Harmonium gelding had to carry 59kg and 56kg in his last two starts in Class 4 but got a relief in the weights (to 51kg) with his promotion after his run last week.

With a change of rider to Krisna who had scored on him back in August, IRONCHAMP was never caught this time, winning by 11/4 lengths. It was his third win 17 starts in Singapore.

The Australian gelding was on board in all his six starts Down Under, winning once and was placed four times.

"This horse doesn’t like the wet, so I was worried about the track, but not so much the outside draw as he’s a natural leader," said trainer Steven Burridge. "Today, he also had the right weight. I backed him up after his run last week when he fly-jumped at the start."
