Kharisma passes big test for hattrick

KHARISMA is a galloper very much in a hurry.

After winning his last two starts in Class 4 and 3 respectively, the Mossman gelding was pitted against much stronger company in the Kranji Stakes A event over 1200m at Kranji here today.

Taking advantage of a lighter handicap weight of 51-kg, KHARISMA took command on settling down and led his rivals on a merry chase to win by 1 3/4 lengths.

With three victories from last season, the four-year-old brought his tally to six wins and four placings from 13 starts. It was his first on turf.

"He’s not raced a lot on grass because there were more polytrack races then. There was no choice, but he ran good races on grass before, so I wasn’t worried about that," said trainer Stephen Gray.

He’s a genuine handicap horse, and with the light weight, I had a throw of the dice as I thought the field was not as strong. He did very well, he also ran time."
