LIM'S LIGHTNING holds off HARD TOO THINK
to win the Singapore Gold

LIM'S LIGHTNING captured the
Singapore Gold Cup at Kranji here today to cap an incredible comeback to
Singapore racing following a below-par campaign in Australia.
Since his return from Down Under where he picked up only a minor win, the
son of Lope De Vega has won five of six starts including the Lion City Cup
(1200m) and the Kranji Mile (1600m).
After his runaway win in the Kanji Mile in September,
LIM'S LIGHTNING suffered a setback in his preparation for the Gold Cup when
he was withdrawn from the Queen Elizabeth II Cup last month after bruising
his shoulder in a fall during a routine afternoon walk.
Despite the missed opportunity of a race "he’s ticked all
the boxes and has been working very well, and this is the result today,"
said trainer Dan Meagher.
The six-year-old was amongst a line of six horses vying for the lead early
and eventually took up the running as the field swung away from the home
stretch for the first time.
ELITE INCREDIBLE joined the leader in the back straight and had his head in
front for some distance but LIM'S LIGHTNING kicked away to lead into the
straight with HARD TOO THINK the new challenger.
The Derby winner HARD TOO THINK and LIM'S LIGHTNING were neck-and-neck from
the top of the straight with the former slightly ahead momentarily till
inside the final 100m when LIM'S LIGHTNING found another gear and kicked
away to win by 3/4 length.
In all, LIM'S LIGHTNING has won 10
of 17 starts in Singapore.
