flashes home in Raffles Cup

LIM'S LIGHTNING annihilated his
rivals to claim the Raffles Cup at Kranji here today, his second Singapore
Group 1 win since returning from a brief campaign in Australia.
The son of Lope De Vega won four of 10 starts, including the Aushorse Golden
Horseshoe in 2018, before heading Down Under where he picked up a minor win.
LIM'S LIGHTNING, however, has enjoyed a phenomenal comeback with five wins
in six starts this season. He captured the Lion City Cup over 1200m last
April which was hardly his ideal distance, then ran second to MINISTER in
the Kranji Mile the following month.
Today, LIM'S LIGHTNING proved to be a class above when he made all the
running to win by 3 3/4 lengths.
"He just keeps stepping up and gets better and better. He
came with a lot of problems, but we’ve kept him happy with a routine and
we’ve sorted him out," said trainer Dan Meagher.
"I thought there’d be a few leaders in the race to be
honest, but he landed in front and I could see MR MALEK parked on his
outside at the 900m and was struggling to keep up.
"He made his own luck in front and
in the straight, he just kept rolling. There’s no limit to what he can do,
it seems. We’ll go to the Queen Elizabeth II Cup now. We just never know for
the Gold Cup, we’ll see."
