Shanghai Nights makes it eight-in-a-row

SHANGHAI NIGHTS stretched his winning run to eight wins but had to do it the hard way in the Supreme A set-weight event over 1400m at Sungei Besi here today.

Ridden by Jackson Low, the New Zealand gelding started a raging favourite at RM6 on the tote but had to stave off a determined challenge by ELITE INVINCIBLE before winning by a short head.

SHANGHAI NIGHTS is now unbeaten in eight starts since coming under trainer Cheng Han Yong last August. Prior to that, the son of Smart Missile picked up two wins in 12 runs for Charles Leck.

While there were many well-backed winners today, three horses shock punters with three-figure payouts.

Biggest surprise of the day came from BIG KING who, after two unplaced runs, won the Open Maiden event over 1600m to pay RM530.

METAGROSS (RM118) and FLASH ONE (RM199) were the other big surprises.
