Trainer Wayne Lim purchased EL TORDILLO for NZ$10,000 as
a yearling but he never got to train the New Zealand bred
—
until last month.
From Down Under, the son of Dalghar flew to Singapore to
begin his career and won two races in 2018 when trained by Dan Meagher.
In early 2019, EL TRODILLO moved to Malaysia to join Lim
Shung You and was an immediate hit, winning his first start in the country
followed by a hattrick later in the year.
But it's been 19 months since EL TORDILLO last tasted
victory. In that time the New Zealand gelding has managed just one placing.
Wayne Lim
finally has a chance to train the horse when EL TORDILLO moved to his yards
last month and in his second start for the trainer, the seven-year-old
showed some of his old fire when he stormed to a runaway win in a Class 4 -
1400m handicap here today.
Ridden by Harmeet Singh Gill, EL TORDILLO settled well back in the running
and was still a long way from the leader at the home turn. Harmeet switched
him wide out at the top of the straight.
EL TORDILLO began to open up and quickly swept last the leaders to hit the
front at the 150m. He then cleared away to win by 3 1/2 lengths.
