Ahmad lands first win but shares limelight

Rookie apprentice Ahmad Firdaus Farhan bin Zul Fakairudin did not have to wait long to land his first win but he had to share that precious moment with a senior rider when the time came.

Indentured to Sharee Hamilton, Ahmad began riding in races this season but has confined his appearances to his home track thus far.

In five rides prior to this afternoon, Ahmad found one to beat twice, the last occasion being on this track on May 1 when his mount ELUSIVE EMPEROR finished second to AMAZING CHOICE in a Class 5 - 1300m handicap.

The same horse was to give Ahmad his breakthrough win in a similar race here this afternoon.

ELUSIVE EMPEROR shared the early lead with MISS MICHELLE but with the latter eased back to sit behind the pace, ELUSIVE EMPEROR led just ahead of TUN O'REILLY.

The pair shared the lead into the straight and matched strides till the 100m when ELUSIVE EMPEROR went just ahead. Just then MISS MICHELLE started to open up and flew home.

ELUSIVE EMPEROR and MISS MICHELLE flashed past the line at the same instance. A deadheat was declared.

MISS MICHELLE was the third leg of a superb quadruple for jockey Ruzaini Sani who had won the opening race on  NOVA PHOENIX followed by SUNNY STAR in the third. He went on to score on EXCELLING.
