San Andreas finds success and consistency

SAN ANDREAS is one horse who has gone from trainer to trainer in search of success and may just be producing his best form at the age of six.

The Australian gelding was purchased for racing in Malaysia and landed unraced in the yards Mohd Sukri in 2019. He had a trial under the trainer but before he had his first race, was shipped to Singapore to join trainer Tim Fitzsimmons.

After a few short months, he was transferred to Michael Clements before making his racing debut at the age of four.

SAN ANDREAS scored once in five starts for Clements. He was then transferred to Mark Walker for a couple of months (without racing) before finding his way back to Malaysia and was renamed (from Marikh) by his new owners.

Under trainer Simon Dunderdale, SAN ANDREAS, named after the 2015 Hollywood action thriller, regained form and found consistency with two wins and two seconds in eight outings.

The son of Smart Missile was on the move again two months ago when he came under the charge of AB Abdullah who has now managed back-to-back wins in three starts with the gelding.

SAN ADREAS carried topweight to victory in Class 4 last month and he defied a promotion to win again in the Class 3 - 1400m handicap at Sungei Besi here today.

Ridden by apprentice Uzair Sharudin, SAN ANDREAS jumped well and was one of three horses in a line fighting for the early lead. The horse eventually settled second on the outside of ELITE QUARTETO.

Uzair took SAN ANDREAS to the front at the 400m and made a breakaway. The favourite BERRY BLISS came with a late charge but just failed to catch the winner by a neck.

"SAN ANDREAS is a progressive horse and he improved quite a bit since his last win," said Abdullah.

"My instructions were to jump well and try to get to the front. He responded well when I asked him for an effort in the straight," said Uzair who had won on the horse earlier this year when trained by Dunderdale.
