China Captain takes charge in the wet

After three wins in the lower classes, trainer Cecil Robert made the bold decision to pit CHINA CAPTAIN against some seasoned campaigners in the Rapid Stakes set-weight event here today.

The Rebel Raider gelding scored a runaway win over 1400m in soft going in Ipoh last month but came up just short in a 1300m contest here later in the month, finishing second.

Two weeks ago, CHINA CAPTAIN finished a tame fourth to RAGNAR over 1600m again on this track.

But with a soft track much to his liking - he has won all his previous three races in the wet - the five-year-old quickly took command after an early tussle for the lead to show the home, winning by 2 3/4 lengths.
