Three months ago, apprentice
Clyde Leck stole the show on Tunku Gold Cup day when he booted home five
winners, PRESTO, GAMESTONKS,
LEADING CELLIST, MAIDANZ BEAUTY and SMART WARRIOR.
Clyde, who is in his second season in the saddle, was
then riding exclusively for his father, trainer Charles Leck, who is also
his master.
With the young lad accepting outside rides for the first
time today, Clyde managed to better that achievement and set a new personal
best record with six winners at Sungei Besi here today.
Clyde made all the running to score on favourites MENTAL
and NAUGHTY KID in the first two races.
His first-ever ride for trainer Simon Dunderdale turned
out to be a winning one as he piloted GOOD FIGHT, another favourite, to win
a Class 4 - 1300m handicap.
More good news followed for the new partnership when
Clyde and AWESOME
STORM combined to take the Metro A set-weight event over 1100m.
Clyde then sprang a mild surprise when OBSIDIAN beat the
favourite MISE EN GARDE to win the second last event, before scoring on the
favourite DRAGON RYKER in the final race in the 12-card programme.
"I am elated with today’s result. Achieving five winners
in a day prior to this, I thought that it would be really difficult to top
it off," said Clyde.
"I have done it with six winners today with plenty of
luck and support. I would like to express how grateful I am to the owners
and trainers, especially Simon Dunderdale and his owners who believed in me
although I am a fairly new apprentice.
"And I would also like to thank the Selangor Turf Club
Apprentice School for nurturing us apprentices to be the best version of
ourselves.
"I will definitely remember this day for eternity and I
hope I can continue garnering support from more trainers and owners."
