SACRED GIFT nails CELAVI on the line to
win the Kranji Stakes A event

SACRED GIFT took advantage of his
light impost to step up from Class 2 to capture the Kranji Stakes A sprint
over 1000m at Kranji here today.
The Zoustar gelding had recovered from a dismal season-opening run in which
he finished last after setting the early pace to win his last start in style
four weeks ago.
The set-weight event today saw only six runners facing the starter after two
course scratchings but SACRED GIFT and the topweight CELAVI made a contest
of it which required a photo-finish.
CELEVI had taken the lead 200m out
but SACRED GIFT wore him down in the closing stages to win by a short head
for his sixth win in 24 starts in Singapore, having been placed twice from
three runs in New Zealand.
"I was confident. I think he was my best ride of the day
(out of seven rides)," said winning rider Iskandar Rosman.
"The pace is fast and that suited him. Before the race,
(trainer) Jerome (Tan) told me not to stay too far away, just settle behind
the leaders because this is a small field.
"Also, in this 1000m sprint, there are two or three
speedy horses. Towards the end, my horse tried hard, and he was a bit
better, so he got the win."
