It's been a long time since Sharee
Hamilton, runner-up in the trainers' table in 2016 and third in 2017,
saddled more than a couple of winners in Kuala Lumpur.
But the Penang-based trainer dominated the proceedings at Sungei Besi here
today when she won four of the eight races contested with ZILFIKAR, D'GREAT
WIN, UNSTOPPABLE GIANT and CAORUNN.
"I was very confident today, especially with ZILFIKAR and UNSTOPPABLE
GIANT," said Hamilton. "I knew D'GREAT WIN and CAORUNN would be there together with a
couple of other runners."
Hamilton started the day with a 'bang' when ZILFIKAR started at generous
odds and took the opening event in a photo-finish. It was the gelding's
first win for her in eight runs, after one win previously with Mohd Sukri.
"Very nice ride by Lim Kar Ping. The horse won due to Lim putting the stick away
and pushing the horse over the line," said Hamilton. ZILFIKAR won by a short
head.
D'GREAT WIN, on the other hand, started favourite to win by a neck in the
very next race. It was also the gelding's first win for her, following three
wins with other trainers.
"It was a courageous win. A strong rider was needed for this horse and Lim
Aun Kean provided that," commented Hamilton.
UNSTOPPABLE GIANT, ridden by leading jockey Laercio de Souza, led all the
way in the combined Classes 4 & 5 - 1600m event to give Hamilton his third
win of the day.
"He is unstoppable today!," exclaimed Hamilton. "He was supposed to sit
second or third but he was too good for the field." UNSTOPPABLE GIANT won by
2 3/4 lengths and it was his fourth win for Hamilton after crossing over
from Singapore.
Hamilton capped a superb afternoon when CAORUNN took the final event after
taking over the lead halfway through the race.
"A good ride by Salee Saad. I have a lot of confidence in him when he rides
front-running horses," said Hamilton.
CAORUNN won two races in Singapore and has now picked up two more with
Hamilton.
