Golden Monkey sparkles in 3YO Classic

GOLDEN MONKEY completed a golden double when he again outclassed his rivals in the Singapore Three-Year-Old Classic over 1400m at Kranji here today.

The Star Turn gelding had romped home by 3 1/4 lengths in the Sprint over 1200m three weeks ago and although tested over 1400m for the first time, was just as relentless when he cruised home 2 3/4 lengths.

With regular jockey Oscar Chavez under suspension, Jake Bayliss seized the opportunity to steer the $8 favourite home to record his first group win in Singapore.

"I’d be lying if I say I didn’t play this race a hundred times in my head since declarations," said the Australian. "I just weighed up my options from the nice draw and didn’t try to overthink it."

"I had the horse underneath me and his work had been too good and the runs were going to come.

"Very privileged to get my first Group win in Singapore."

"Jake did an amazing job today," said leading trainer Tim Fitzsimmons. "He’s a really serious horse and he just keeps getting better."

"I’m speechless today, he really just put them away. He’s a really classy horse."

GOLDEN MONKEY, who came over from Australia with a record of three placings in five runs at two and three, has now picked up three wins in five starts in Singapore.
