It was was golden moment for
trainer Tim Fitzsimmons when GOLDEN MONKEY romped home to capture the
Singapore 3YO Sprint at Kranji here today.
It was the group success for the Australian who set up stables in Singapore
2019.
It was also sweet revenge for GOLDEN MONKEY who was soundly beaten by 2 3/4
lengths into second place by SILENT IS GOLD in a Novice event the last time
they met.
With SILENT IS GOLD going for a hattrick in the Group 3 contest over 1200m
today, GOLDEN MONKEY raised his game several notches today to beat him by 3
1/4 lengths.
SILENT IS GOLD had taken the lead momentarily from the pacemaker GOLD TEN
SIXTY-ONE at the 200m when GOLDEN MOMKEY loomed large on the outside.
"He was fantastic. It was amazing," said Fitzsimmons. "He
did what we expected him to do.
"He drew (barrier) 14 at his last start and it was tough
running round that first turn and while he put in a really good run on the
winner, he peaked.
"But he came on in leaps and bounds. He’s a really
exciting horse and ran an amazing time."
GOLDEN MONKEY clocked 1min 8.87secs, 0.72 second off the
course record set by SPALATO in 2014.
GOLDEN MONKEY landed in Singapore having raced once as a
two-year-old and started five times at three for three placings in
Australia.
The Star Turn gelding won his second start at Kranji with ease after drawing
attention with a third placing in his debut.
