Brought into Singapore with the big
races in mind after scoring five wins (including a listed race) in
Argentina, ELITE REMARKABLE finally as a Cup win to his name when he
registered a big upset in the Coronation Cup here today.
The set-weight 1600m event returned after a lapse of two years because of
the Covid-19 pandemic.
ELITE REMARKABLE raced for three seasons in Argentina but he failed to show
up in 13 runs at Kranji.
Sent over to Johnny Lim in Kuala Lumpur, the son of Sebi Halo was placed
twice in 10 starts last year.
It was under first-season trainer Parama Sivan
a/l M S Veerapen (V Sivan) that the gelding finally struck winning form,
scoring back-to-back wins over 1275m and 2000m last June.
At this track last month, ELITE REMARKABLE scored his third win over 1600m,
earning enough rating points to qualify for today's contest.
Ridden by Tham Kin Chong, the eight-year-old was well back in the early
running and was last in a compact field turning into the straight.
The field was stretched across the track from the 400m and no one horse
looked the winner until less than 100m. That's when ELITE REMARKABLE charged
through between horses to snatch victory. He paid RM117.
It's the first big win for both
Sivan, a former jockey, and Tham.
