Metal World gives Richard Lim first win

METAL WORLD staged a spectacular from-last-to first victory in the Class 4, Div 2 - 1000m sprint on the polytrack at Kranji here today to hand Richard Lim his first success as a trainer.

The five-year-old also gave jockey Amirul Ismadi his first win since returning to ride in Singapore this season.

Former jockey Lim was granted his stables and licence this year but after sending horses out at the start of the season, it has taken him 29 runners to find his breakthrough.

Still, Lim will find immense satisfaction that it is a horse that he had bought personally at the sales that has given him his first win.

Lim paid US$65,000 for the American gelding at the 2019 Ocala Spring 2YO In Training Sale when he was still an assistant trainer. The gelding was named YOU QIAN ZHUAN and initially placed under trainer Steven Burridge.

Lim rode him at trials but the gelding only began his racing career when transferred to Jason Lim. YOU QIAN ZHUAN made a winning debut in January 2020 but failed to find his winning form again until he was renamed METAL WORLD 12 months later.

METAL WORLD picked up another win last July but failed to show in seven subsequent starts.

With Lim having obtained his A licence, METAL WORLD naturally moved into his yards and instant winning partnership. But given his poor recent form, the gelding started at long odds and paid $282 for a win.

A relieved Lim said: ""He (METAL WORLD) came over in good condition (from Jason Lim) and I gave him a break after his last few runs. I thought he can run good at his first run for me, but I did not expect him to win."

"I will continue to work hard and not let you guys down."
