Rookie apprentice Nor Mohamad
Fikri Ismail has
made a decent start to his career with eight wins thus far in his first
season on the scene.
But he can count himself luckier than others with already
two feature race wins to his name.
Just two weeks ago, Fikri, who is indentured to Lawson
Moy, partnered GINGERELLA to win the New Zealand Bloodstock Ready To Run
Trophy (Metro A - 1100m) at Sungei Besi for owner Joe Giovanni Sarjeet Singh
and trainer Teh Ming Wan.
The same combination was back in the winner's rostrum to
receive their silverware when SCOOBY DOOBY DOO romped to victory in the
Wally Moore Trophy (Class 3 - 1100m), a race sponsored by Mr & Mrs Wally
Moore, at Sungei Besi here today.
SCOOBY DOOBY DOO failed to win in 14 starts in Singapore
but has picked up eight wins in 21 runs since moving across the causeway to
the stables of Teh.
SCOOBY DOOBY DOO, ridden for the first time by Fikri, was
the first to break but Fikri eased her back to settle fifth. There was keen
tussle for the lead halfway down the home stretch with five horses stretched
across the track.
SCOOBY DOOBY DOO, who took the rails run as opposed to
the others who looked for firmer ground wide out, managed to cut them down
and cleared away in the final 100m to win by 3 3/4 lengths.
"She has very good temperament and is healthy and well
bred, being by the same sire (Gingerbread Man) as GINGERELLA," said Teh.
"Hope she keeps improving and who knows may someday be good enough to run in
a Cup race."
"I am grateful for winning my
trophy for the same owner and trainer," said Fikri. "I look forward to
getting more rides from other trainers and owners."
