Black Is Power storms to big upset

The Penang races here today ended on a dismal note for punters when outsiders captured the last three races on the card, with 11-year-old BLACK IS POWER causing the biggest upset with a RM192 payout.

His last win came just over 12 months ago, and having finished in the tailend in four of his four starts, the Australian gelding surprised everybody when he took command on settling down and went on to win by 1 3/4 lengths for his 10th win in 97 starts.

ARIF, whose last success came nearly three years ago, cause the big upset when he battled to victory in the Class 4 - 1600m handicap. It was the Irish gelding's seventh win in Malaysia. He paid RM132.

The now 10-year-old had raced in Great Britain, Russia, France and the Czech Republic, winning once each at Dundalk and Prague. He was unplaced in seven starts in Singapore.

After two wins in Singapore, American bred ASIAN JET picked up his third in Malaysia with an easy win to pay RM103.
