China Captain back in charge in Ipoh

CHINA CAPTAIN, who last won a Enrich Stakes A race here in February, was back in the winner's circle after taking out a similar race today, following some decent runs in the interim and a recent change of trainer to Mohd Sukri.

Lim Shung Uai, who rode the Rebel Raider gelding twice last year without success, was third time lucky.

ARC TRIUMPH set the pace in the 1300m event while CHINA CAPTAIN tracked him in second spot. ARC TRIUMPH was always well clear of the field and still had a commanding lead at the 300m. CHINA CAPTAIN was desperately trying to catch up with the leader.

The early effort eventually took its toll on the leader and he finally came under pressure in the final 200m. That's when CHINA CAPTAIN caught up with him.

ARC TRIUMPH tried to fight back but CHINA CAPTAIN proved a shade too strong in the end, winning by half a length. It was the ninth win in 43 starts since he began his career in 2020.

Meanwhile, veteran trainer Peter Lee and jockey Hafis Saari enjoyed one of their best days when they combined to win three races with KING RAVANA, MAGICAL PARK and THAI BAHT early in the programme.
