China Captain
bounces back for 10th win

CHINA CAPTAIN bounced back from
finishing last in the Selangor Gold Cup (1600m) at Sungei Besi last month to
win the Cosmo C set-weight event over 1600m here today in his first start
for Kevin Coetzee.
The Australian gelding had won an Enrich Stakes A event over 1300m here last
August but changed trainer after his dismal Cup outing.
Although meeting much weaker opponents than his last start, CHINA CAPTAIN
started at generous odds (RM44) today, ridden for the first time by Ruzaini Supien.
CHINA CAPTAIN settled just off the pace set by MANDRAKE with HEARTS OF GOLD
for company. CHINA CAPTAIN was a handy fourth hugging the rails.
Ruzaini eased CHINA CAPTAIN out from the rails making the turn into the
straight, moving up to third. The seven-year-old ranged alongside the two
leaders to make it three in a line at the 300m.
CHINA CAPTAIN then raced away in the final 200m to win to win by 2 3/4
lengths. It was the 10th win in 45 starts for the son of Rebel Raider.
