Cheah off the mark in 2023 with Tail Spin

Cheah Wei Wen, who finished 10th in the jockey's table with 28 winners from 305 rides last year, finally landed his first win of the 2023 season when he took TAIL SPIN to an all-the-way win in a Class 5 - 1300m handicap here today.

The Congrats gelding has won seven races and his last came last August when Cheah partnered him to win over 1300m at Sungei Besi.

TAIL SPIN has started eight times since and was placed in his last two runs without Cheah. The renewal of the partnership with the apprentice worked like magic when TAIL SPIN was able to find his best form again.

TAIL SPIN drifted under pressure in the closing stages but still able to hang on to win by 1 1/4 lengths, then survived an objection by the rider of the second-placed KYO.

TAIL SPIN was Cheah's 11th ride of the season.
