Beaten favourite in the Tunku Gold
Cup two weeks ago, BIG DOCTOR bounced back quickly to win the Rapid Stakes A
over 1100m here today.
The Australian gelding went onto the big race in Kuala Lumpur on the back on
three unbeaten starts on this track. It was also the first time the
six-year-old travelled outstation.
BIG DOCTOR was never a factor in the Cup, finishing a tame 10th behind the
winner, rank outsider SAN ANDREAS.
Trained in Penang by Asogan Thangaraju, BIG DOCTOR took command on settling
down in the set-weight event. He was challenged first by GRAND CROSS on his
outside and then KERAUNO who found an opening inside of BIG DOCTOR on the
rails approaching the 200m.
The leader, however, fought on to secure his lead and won by half a length.
BIG DOCTOR landed in Singapore in late 2021 after three seasons in Australia
where he won five races and was placed five times in 22 starts.
The son of Better Than Ready had one trial in early last year but never
raced at Kranji.
Transferred to Asogan, BIG DOCTOR has made an big impact with four wins in
five starts, the disappointment of the Cup run not withstanding.
