After an uneventful start to his
career, STREET OF DREAMS is now dreaming of one of the biggest prizes in
Singapore: the Derby in July.
The Dundeel gelding was placed just once from his first four runs but his
career took off last October when he trashed his rivals by 6 1/4 lengths in
a Maiden event over 1200m.
STREET OF DREAMS then went on to reel off six consecutive wins, the last two
in Kranji Stakes A.
Consider this. Last month he defeated KATAK and company over 1400m and
today, the accounted for last year's Singapore Gold Cup winner HONGKONG
GREAT over 1600m.
HONGKONG GREAT took the lead after settling down while STREET OF DREAMS, who
started odds-on today, settled just behind the pace.
CIRCUIS MISSION joined the pacemaker at the top of the straight with STREET
OF DREAMS poised to strike on their outside. The trio had the race to
themselves in the final 200m.
STREET OF DREAMS went best in the final stages to win by half a length from
HONGKONG GREAT, who lost no marks after giving away 6kg to the winner.
"I got going earlier than I would have liked but also
always thought that we had their measure. I think he would be better on top
of the ground too," said jockey Ronnie Stewart who rode the gelding the last
two starts.
"Good horses get the job done and he’s a good horse."
"To win six (races) straight and on a wetter track today;
he maybe wasn’t as suited as he was previously," said trainer Steven
Burridge.
"He can only win and he’s doing well in the stable. I
think the experience alone will do him a world of good. He’ll keep going."
