GOOD FIGHT stepped up on a very
good run in the Selangor Gold Cup last month to win the RM100,000 Sports
Toto Supreme Challenge Cup over 1400m at Sungei Besi here today.
Already winner of four races in the lower classes earlier
in the season, the Super One gelding accounted for a top field in the
Supreme A set-weight event after finishing sixth in the Selangor Gold Cup.
BERRY BLISS, who finished second in the Selangor Gold
Cup, started favourite ahead of AWESOME STORM in the betting. The favourite
was never in the reckoning throughout.
AWESOME STORM as usual jumped well and led early but
LEOPARD ECLIPSE took over when the field made the first turn out of the back
straight.
The leader was beaten coming to the 400m and AWESOME
STORM quickly took over. GOOD FIGHT, who was a handy third most of the way,
STREETS OF FIRE and XENA gave chase and they almost in a line at the 200m.
STREETS OF FIRE hit the front momentarily soon after but
GOOD FIGHT collared him 50m out to beat him by half a length. XENA finished
third while AWESOME STORM faded to fourth. GOOD FIGHT paid RM89 for a win.
Winner of one race in nine starts in Singapore, GOOD
FIGHT has picked up seven wins since coming under the charge of Simon
Dunderdale.
"He finished a close-up sixth in the Selangor Gold Cup
but today with the light weight (52kg after claim) he was able to finish
over the top of them and won well," said Dunderdale.
"A great ride from my stable
apprentice Tuan Ammar and a big congratulations to the owners."
"The pace was very fast early so I let him sat in a handy position," said
Ammar who was winning on GOOD FIGHT for the third time this year. "I
asked him for an effort from the 400m and he responded well."
