Star Genius sparkles to land upset win

STAR GENIUS proved that she can still sparkle at the age of ten when she scored an spectacular upset win in Class 4 - 1400m handicap here today.

The daughter of Starfcraft won three races in Singapore and quickly proved herself again in Malaysia with three wins in her first eight runs in the country in 2019.

The Australian mare then went through the next three years without success but landed a comeback win in her first outing of 2023 here last month when she was dropped to Class 5 for the first time in her career.

Although unplaced in her next two starts back in Class 4, STAR GENIUS showed that there is still fire left in her when she fought her way to a thrilling win today.

Racing worse than midfield early, jockey Saddam Hussein Saari cleverly weaved his way through traffic at the home turn. By the top of the straight, he had found a clear path ahead of him but racing wide of the field.

With the pacemaker PURPLE RAIN LADY beaten at the 200m, SHANGANI hit the front but was challenged by SHENG PROISIR on the rails. MR G and STAR GENIUS staked their claims soon after. In a four-way photo, STAR GENIUS won by a short head from SHENG PROISIR.

In a capacity field of 14, STAR GENIUS paid RM303 for a win.
